Many charitable organizations are working relentlessly to get rid of poverty around the world. The UNICEF and its partners have always worked to alleviate child poverty. Following are some interesting facts about child poverty that you should know.
1.About 1 billion fewer people now live in extreme poverty compared to 20 years ago. The organizations working towards reducing poverty around the world are doing a good job in dealing with extreme poverty. The proportion of extreme poverty has reduced to half in the last 20 years. It is expected that we will be able to eradicate extreme poverty by 2030.
2.In the sub-Saharan Africa, more than 247 million children are deprived of their basic rights. So, they lack nutrition, water, education, shelter or health. According to UNICEF two in every three children across this region suffer from these deprivations.
3.1 in 4 children lives in poverty in developed countries. In the EU, for example, about 26 million children are at risk of poverty. This shows that child poverty is a universal problem that we are facing, despite whether the country is rich or poor.
4.Only one-third of these poor people are covered by social protection. There are many social programs that are helping children and families that are living in poverty. But the support is not enough. More social support is required to improve the condition.
These facts indicate that we still have a long way to go before we can eradicate poverty completely and give children a better living environment. The governments, different organizations, and people from all walks of life should help these poor children get out of poverty.
